ELA Standards and Technology Matrices
The ELA Standards and Technology Matrix I have chosen is for eighth grade and is titled LAFS.8.RI.3.7. This standard describes a need for students to evaluate the benefits and downsides of using different mediums for various informational purposes. These mediums include both print and digital text along with visual, auditory, and multimedia processes. Additionally, students are asked to support their evaluation with evidence from the lesson’s resources. Based on my current skillset and my experiences as a Media/Communication Studies major, I would feel quite prepared to implement this standard into a classroom curriculum. Through the courses in my major, I have learned that specific mediums are most effectively utilized in specific scenarios. Therefore, I would draw upon these previous experiences to teach this standard to my students as it will be highly useful information for them in their future educational journeys and their careers.
CPALMS Educator Toolkit
For this section, I chose to look through more ELA resources. This time, I looked at the “Standard 1: Communicating Through Writing” standard for tenth grade. This standard has many example lesson plans, tutorials, in-class activities, and videos to utilize in the course curriculum. These resources can be directly implemented into a course’s curriculum or they can serve as a source of inspiration. Educators can evaluate these resources and adapt them to fit the current needs of their class or they can create their own lesson plans based on the ideas presented in these resources.
Internet Searching
Internet searching is an important skill for educators to have for a variety of reasons. For example, internet searching will help educators research the subjects of their lesson plans and curriculum more in-depth, which will positively impact the quality of their educational instruction. Additionally, internet searching is an important skill for educators across all academic subjects to teach to their students to help them find quality online resources and information as it pertains to their specific classes. I think that Google Advanced Search is a resource I will utilize a lot in the future, especially when I start graduate school in the fall. I will admit that my search skills are not always the most efficient, so I believe Google Advanced Search will help me find the resources I need more quickly and sufficiently.
