Copyright & Fair Use

Before this class, I did not know much about copyright and fair use. As a teacher, I would definitely use the knowledge gained from this class to do my due diligence and research before using photos or content from other creators. I would also make sure that I create a Creative Commons License for any instructional material content I publish online. This also goes for my future students who I would teach to do the same if they want to publish their own works online.

Technology Implementation Issues

A problem students may face with technology being implemented in the classroom setting is that it may lead to academic dishonesty. To avoid this, I would teach my students how to properly research, apply, and cite online information in their assignments. Being very clear about how to go about researching and what my expectations are as a teacher would help them better understand what they are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do. Additionally, I would use the website TurnItIn to check for any excessive or blatant academically dishonest writing.

Generative AI

I will admit that I am pretty apprehensive about the use of generative AI in educational settings. I understand that it can be helpful to brainstorm ideas and gather general information for assignments, but I think that generative AI is a slippery slope that students could become too reliant on. Generative AI definitely can both help and hurt students, but I tend to lean more toward the belief that it hurts students. To me, it is important that students use their own creativity and knowledge to complete their assignments, so I would emphasize that in my classroom. However, there is more research I could do on the benefits of generative AI in the classroom to help better my understanding of the issue.

Newsletter Assignment Reflection

After completing the Newsletter assignment I feel much more comfortable using Microsoft Word. I learned so much about borders, shading, columns, and more, which were all things I had no idea how to do in Word before. I decided to try and figure out how to do everything on my own instead of looking up videos or articles online for help, which I felt was a very insightful experience. I am usually much more inclined to use Canva for creative projects, but I can see myself utilizing Word more creatively in the future now that I know more about how to use it to my advantage. I really loved this assignment and I look forward to more creative projects like this one!
