About Me
Hi, there! My name is Kate Lowry and I am a student in Jaesung’s section of EME2040. I am a senior Media/Communication Studies major at Florida State University and I am graduating this May. I am minoring in Education because of my interest in becoming an Academic Advisor in the near future. Therefore, I am super excited to be in this class and to learn more about technology and all of the ways it can aid me in my future career! Outside of the academic realm, I love to watch movies and tv shows, listen to music and podcasts, go to coffee shops, crochet, read, do yoga, go on walks around campus, and thrift!
Educational Technology Experience
Prior to this, I have had quite a bit of experience using technology in my classes because my major has required me to do so. One class in particular, COM4561 (Social Media Campaigns), used technology a lot in its curriculum. We were assigned with creating an advocacy campaign surrounding a social issue, so my group chose to highlight period poverty and the stigma surrounding menstruation. We used social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter/X, and Facebook to post about our campaign and used Canva, Google Docs, and Google Slides to plan and create our campaign. This was a very great learning experience because I had never used social media in a professional context before and I learned how to engage with audiences through online platforms.
Personal Learning Network
Since my career goal is to become an Academic Advisor, my personal learning network consists primarily of student affairs professionals at FSU. For example, my own Academic Advisor has been a great resource and support system throughout my past four years at FSU, especially during my recent graduate school application process. I have also utilized student affairs professionals in my student organizations for guidance during the application process since they have the kind of graduate degree I would hope to obtain. I meet with these individuals both in person and through online communication for help. Overall, my personal learning network has been so helpful for me and I cannot have done anything without them!
Hi Kate! I am also a senior graduating in May with an Education minor! My Academic Advisors have been so important in my journey through college, so I really appreciate that this is what you want to do in the future. Wishing you good luck!
